How do I connect to my Class Web Folder using FTPS and display my Site page?
In order to connect to our servers, you must use the UTEP VPN or UTEP secure. In addition you must use one of the file transfer software applications mentioned in our CS Software Center tab. There are download links provided there.
Use this information to connect:
- Host: servername.utep.edu

- Password: [miners password]
- Port: 21
- File Protocol: FTP (for WINSCP)
- Encryption: TLS/SSL Explicit encryption (for WINSCP)
NOTE: A Certificate warning window may display. Click “OK” to continue.
- Once you have successfully connected, you will see a file structure such as the image below.
- Navigate to your appropriate class folder
- Once in the desired location, if you have appropriate rights, you will be able to drag and drop files into the server from your local computer.
Tips:
- If you are taking programming languages you will need to have a file named index.html or index.php in your root folder. This file is the file that is currently being displayed on your website.
- If this file is deleted your page will be greeted with an access forbidden page!
- In order to avoid this either create or expand on the given index file
- From this page you can redirect to another file within your student folder as long as the directory location is correct and in accordance to the server file structure.
- There must only be one index file.
- To see/run your page (point your browser to (https://cssrvlab01.utep.edu ), then select your class number and choose the desired site. You may need to be on the UTEP VPN if off the UTEP Secure Network.
- When using PHP: php is allowed to write data only to files in the “writable” subdirectory.
- It is possible to add the server to your IDE thus allowing for an almost seamless experience. In doing so this would only work when in the UTEP network or when connected via UTEP VPN.
